Intern & Volunteer in Morocco

The Kingdom of Morocco offers a very rich and diverse culture with a blend of Arab, Berber, European and African influences. It’s known to be the most westerly country in North Africa. Morocco is located in Northern Africa and is unique amongst African nations because of its mountain interior, inland deserts and shares coastlines with the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.

Volunteer in Morocco to support those who are unfortunately underrepresented. Despite Morocco’s economic progress, imbalances between the rich and poor persist. The country continues to suffer from poverty, illiteracy and high unemployment. Domestic violence is not explicitly criminalized in Morocco, so victims don’t have protection from the law or government. It’s said that the law is gender discriminatory, favouring men in many aspects. Other issues, like the exploitation of child domestic workers, continue to be an issue despite the ban on employing children below the age of 15. Through our internships and volunteer opportunities in Morocco, you can contribute to local efforts and support those driving change to these issues, whether that is through childcare, medical assistance, women’s empowerment, teaching English abroad or journalism.

Our volunteer projects and internships in Morocco are located in the Capital of Rabat. Rabat is the perfect blend of modern and traditional Morocco. The medina quarter is typical of Moroccan culture with windy narrow streets in between thick walls almost like a maze. Intern or volunteer in Morocco and see this beautiful country for yourself!

Morocco Travel FAQs

Do I need a visa to visit or work in Morocco?

For many citizens, you don’t need a visa for any visits that last 90 days or shorter. This includes citizens from the USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and more. However, you must have proof of a return flight ticket. If you do wish to stay in Morocco for longer than 90 days, you can extend your stay at a Moroccan police station!

What is the best time to visit Morocco?
Morocco is a year-round destination! It really depends on what weather conditions you prefer best, but if you want to avoid the scorching heat and the cold nights, consider an internship or volunteer project in Morocco between September-November and March-April.
Is Morocco safe to travel to?

We have helped hundreds of volunteers and interns travel to Morocco and have curated our projects to be as safe as possible! Like most busy locations across the world, we advise that you keep all personal belongings in a closed bag that is close to your body as pickpockets and bag snatching is common. If you have any concerns, please feel free to reach out to our Kaya program advisors who can provide you with all the info you need!

Does Kaya provide accommodation for all volunteers and interns?

Yes! Kaya provides accommodation for each intern and volunteer on every project, for the duration of your time in Morocco! You will stay in one of the following arrangements:

  • Homestay with family
  • Dormitory-like shared volunteer house
  • On-site living quarters with shared kitchen
Can I volunteer in Morocco for free?

The largest proportion of our program fees goes toward the on-ground support and project work, including providing materials and funding so that your work can make an impact! Though you can’t join a program for free, you can arrange a fundraiser which can help pay half, if not all, of your expenses! You can do so through fundraising sites like:

  • FundMyTravel
  • GoFundMe
  • Facebook Fundraisers
