However, like many societies in Southeast Asia, life can be difficult for disadvantaged communities and Vietnam is no exception. Children and adults with disabilities and special needs are often hidden and lack support which affects their quality of life. In low income communities, teachers do not receive what they need to develop essential educational and physical activities. Becoming a volunteer in Vietnam is a great way for experienced individuals or those with a general interest in working with people to work alongside local educators and staff to support and provide awareness to those who need it most.

When you’re not volunteering in Vietnam you can spend your spare time in Cuc Phuong National Park, one of Vietnam’s most important protected areas. It boasts magnificent limestone mountains, traditional stilt houses of the Muong hill-tribe and is home to some of Asia’s rarest species. If you have a particular interest in history, take a trip to the war remnants museum in Ho Chi Minh City. Be sure to try traditional and delicious Vietnamese cuisine, like beef pho noodle soup, too!
